Silent Database creation using DBCA !!!

Home »  ORACLE »  Silent Database creation using DBCA !!!

In this article, we will see silent database creation using DBCA. We will see the commands for creating RAC database, RACOneNode database and Single database.

Here I assume that you have already installed Oracle binaries. We will be using storage as ASM for all the examples.

Follow the below steps to create databases using DBCA silent installation

• Create RAC database

We have a 2 node RAC (rac1,rac2). We will be executing the below steps on node 1 (rac1).

– Go to below directory
cd $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates

– Make a copy of the default template to the database you want to create
cp New_Database.dbt ORCLDB.dbt

– Edit the new template as per your requirements
Change the “New Database” to “ORCLDB”
Change init parameters
Change control file location
Change datafile and tablespace attributes
Change location to ASM diskgroups wherever required

– Create RAC database
Execute below command to create a RAC database

The above command will create a 2 node RAC database.

• Create RACOneNode database

We have a 2 node RAC (rac1,rac2). We will be executing the below steps on node 1 (rac1). In RACOneNode, you will be having only one instance running on the node where you execute the DBCA command. The other node(s) will act as fail over.

– Go to below directory
cd $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates

– Make a copy of the default template to the database you want to create
cp New_Database.dbt ORCLDB.dbt

– Edit the new template as per your requirements
Change the “New Database” to “ORCLDB”
Change init parameters
Change control file location
Change datafile and tablespace attributes
Change location to ASM diskgroups wherever required

– Create RACOneNode database
Execute below command to create a RACOneNode database

The above command will create a RACOneNode database on rac1 node. You can check the configuration using below command.

• Create Single Instance database

You can create single instance database in a RAC or NON-RAC environment. The steps are almost similar except you need to omit few parameters in the dbca command.

– Go to below directory
cd $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates

– Make a copy of the default template to the database you want to create
cp New_Database.dbt ORCLDB.dbt

– Edit the new template as per your requirements
Change the “New Database” to “ORCLDB”
Change init parameters
Change control file location
Change datafile and tablespace attributes
Change location to ASM diskgroups wherever required

– Create Single instance database
Execute below command to create a Single Instance database

The above command will create a Single Instance database.

That’s it, this completes our activity of creating databases using dbca silent installation.
